ISA works to establish a safe, nutritious and local food system that sustains rural communities. ISA gets this done by encouraging sustainable agricultural practices, expanding market opportunities for farmers, and establishing local food policy councils. By working to open local and Chicago urban markets for Illinois farmers, we maximize freshness and nutrition, keep more revenue within the state, and reduce transportation costs. We also build local food systems through local food policy councils, which give local communities a voice in their food and farms. Food policy councils determine topics that are important to their areas, such as marketing, alternative production and funding. If you are interested in participating in monthly food policy calls, contact Patrick McGarry: <patrick@ilstewards.org >
