Perhaps this excellent piece by Joshua Holland might shed some light for those who are confused about what happened yesterday. It clearly and concisely explains why, 1) some sort of intervention is necessary if we're to avert a global financial collapse, 2) why the plan defeated yesterday was a bad deal for virtually everyone and, 3) why the Republicans who voted against the bill did so in an effort to promote the same discredited economic ideology that has brought us to the present crisis.
